I am also attaching the text version of the interview below:

1000Hires: Provide a brief description about yourself.

Yilin: My name is Yilin Gao, I am a UX designer. I am originally from China and now based in London. I help companies to design and optimise the user experience of their product by my design skills and design thinking ability.

I am passionate about being a UX designer because I love to see the satisfaction from users and to increase the performance of the product. I have managed to provided all-rounded UX design solutions for extensive industries including home services, retail and education.

I am currently working as a freelance UX researcher and business analyst for an e-commerce retail start-up. The wireframes, research reports and user flow I produced have helped define the foundation of the business idea.

Additionally, my background in international media and advertising enables me to deal with different people and to integrate my understanding of UX design.

Overall I would define myself as an adaptable and open-minded creative.

1000Hires: What is a personal project you accomplished that you are proud of?

Yilin: Among all the projects I accomplished, my favourite one is a home services app. It is designed from an absolute user centric perspective, and I spent a lot time and energy on it in a very rapid 4 weeks, and it received a lot of good reviews from a wide range of audience. We gathered information from actual home services users to study their behaviour. We found out their pain points and design the user flows specifically to solve the worries and trouble. I was responsible mainly for the wireframes, personas and user flows. The whole project was challenging as well as fulfilling to me!

1000Hires: Tell us about a personal challenge overcame.

Yilin: On top of my mind, I want to share the experience I learned the UX design in Flatiron School. I attended the full time online UX design session, which is a really challenging and interesting project. It requited us to absorb a huge amount of new knowledge in a very short period and to deliver outcomes almost every day. On top of that, back then I was in China and my team members all based in the US, where I share 12hours time differences with. Therefore, usually I needed to stay up until midnight, sometimes even 3,4am to attend the lectures and team discussions while have family commitments in the daytime. It was definitely not easy and required a lot of time management, but I was eager to learn and don’t want to fall behind so I never missed one lecture or discussion. After I held up for 6 months not only did I acquire the certification from the course but also rich experience working as a UX designer in a team, which meant the world to me.

1000Hires: What are you looking for in your next role?

Yilin: Looking for a full-time UX designer role, junior level, ideally in e-commerce, home services, or health care industries. Company that with culture and open mindset.

1000Hires: What can your future teammates count on you for?

Yilin: First of all, I am very responsible, self-motivated and organized. When I work in a team, I can always get things done.

I also believe every voice matter, so I am open-minded to other opinions to design a better solution.

I am also up to new things. I love catching the latest trends and news in the industry so that I can stay innovative and bring new ideas.
